MONTE COOK
GAME DESIGN ADVISOR
One of most renowned pen and paper game designers in the industry, Monte Cook’s life is every geek’s dream come true. Best known for his game designing skills for his work on Dungeons and Dragons, 3rd edition, Monte is a professional writer who has published numerous short stories, novels, comic books, and nonfiction pieces. He has written hundreds of tabletop roleplaying game books & articles and has won numerous awards. In 2001, Monte started his own game design studio, Malhavoc Press and published several notable and award winning products, such as Ptolus, Arcana Evolved, and the Book of Eldritch Might series.
Naturally inquisitive and competitive as a child, Monte entered the gaming world at an early age. Monte’s family honed his competitive streak and natural talent by playing card games such as Gin Rummy, Spades, Hearts, and (more obscure card games) like Seven Up and Nine Hole Golf. You can say that gaming is embedded in his DNA. Not surprisingly, Monte is still an avid game-player and is notorious for turning mundane activities into competitive merriment.
Adding FIX to his life was an obvious no-brainer, as it crossed two areas of his life harmoniously– game design and health. About three years ago, Monte lost almost 80 lbs through changes in diet and exercise. It’s a struggle to keep the extra weight off but Monte has found that Utilifit games correspond with his constitution; practicing healthy habits through small increments of exercise throughout the day with a hint of fierce gaming to keep it lively.
